Review:
Paperboy (2012) *** (out of 4) Lee Daniels adaptation of Peter Dexter's novel in a swamp trash and mystery that surrounds them. Reporter Ward Jansen (Matthew McConaughey) returns to hometown to try to solve the mystery of the sheriff, who was killed. Hillary Van Wetter (John Cusack) has been sentenced to death for a crime, but the journalist believes he's innocent and pulled his younger brother Zac Efron () and trashy woman (Nicole Kidman) in things. Paperboy is quite unpleasant to look at a bunch of characters that you can not hate funny to see McConaughey really changed their appearance here and in the following years earlier KILLER JOE. I think the best thing in the picture performances and authentic feel to the Director Daniels brings to the picture. The biggest problem is the script and the story, which I felt was not all that convincing. The entire mystery of what really happened with the sheriff, it appears that the rear seat and it really just seems to come and go at times. Im not really sure why he was thrown into the background, as most of the twists and turns that come at the end. The Youd turnarounds, filmmakers who want a story that is important, but just never come off. It also seems that the director wants to shock the viewer with some pretty graphic violence and sexual scenes that the stars are all doing some pretty wild things. It really does look like it's just a movie about each of these scenes, and its fair to say that they're quite memorable. Performances from the entire cast are great with McConaughey and Kidman work wonders with their characters wading trash. I thought they were both very high and hats off to them as far as they did. I was also impressed by Efron and thought to be involved in the development of character very well. Cusack is a great game scary bad but we also received strong support from David Oyelowo, Scott Glenn, and Macy Gray. Cinematography is also good because the music score and atmosphere. Newspaper as a good showcase for its star, but you can not feel his missed opportunity for a stronger story would be even better.
